In this lesson， I’ll go over five common idioms that sound very similar， their meaning is also very similar。

大家好，我是Emma，歡迎來到Emma的美味英語！

在本節課程中，我們將會學習五個常用的習語，它們聽起來非常相似，意思同樣也非常相似。

They‘re all about change。 But the way that we use each of them in English is a little different。

它們都是關於改變的。但是我們在英文中使用它們的方式有一點點不同。

In some of my previous lessons like this one， I explained why idioms are important and what strategies you can use to learn them and remember them。

Idioms can be a little tricky to learn， but they’re fun to use and they definitely make English more interesting and more entertaining。

在我之前的一些類似的課程中，我解釋過為什麼習語這麼重要，以及你可以使用什麼策略來學習和記憶這些習語。

習語學起來可能有點點複雜，但是使用它們是非常好玩的，而且它們能夠讓英文更加有趣，更加生動。

This lesson is an advanced lesson， one that will teach you the subtle differences between some very similar idioms。

It will help you to use them correctly and sound more natural like a native English speaker。

本節課程是高階課程，它能夠教會你相似的習語之間細微的差別。

它能夠幫助你正確地使用它們，而且聽起來更加自然，更加像英語母語者。

Now my advice with learning idioms is always to think about a situation in your own life where the meaning of the idiom is relevant so you can associate the idiom with a memory or an experience that you have。

It‘s gonna help you to remember the idiom but it will also mean you can use the idiom whenever you talk about that memory or that experience in English。

好的，我給大家的學習習語的建議永遠是想象在你生活中和這個習語的意思有關的場景，這樣的話，你就可以將習語和你的一段記憶或者是一段經歷相聯絡。

這能夠幫助你記憶習語，但是這也意味著你只要你用英語談論那段記憶或者經歷的時候，你都可以使用這個習語。

Super cool， right？ Okay， so in this lesson， we’re focusing on idioms with the word ‘change’。

聽起來很棒，是吧？好的，所以呢在本節課程中，我們專攻和改變有關的習語。

Now something my dear dad used to tell me is that change is the only constant in life。

It‘s the one thing that stays the same。

我親愛的爸爸曾經告訴過我的一件事情是，生活中處處充滿改變。

只有改變才是永遠不變的。

Everything around us is changing。 Our lives change， we change。

我們周圍的一切都在改變。我們的生活在改變，我們也在改變。

So these idioms are super relevant and helpful so that you can express yourself。

When we move to a new house or we start a new job， we meet new people， things change。

所以這些習語和我們的生活息息相關，也非常有用，能夠幫助你表達你自己。

當我們搬到新家或者是開始一份新工作的時候，當我們遇見新的人，事情都在改變。

As we grow older， we change。

As certain things happen in our lives， we also change。

當我們慢慢長大的時候，我們在改變。

我們生活中發生不同的事情，我們也在改變。

Change isn’t always easy but being able to talk about it in English should be。

So let‘s start with ’to change your mind‘。

改變並不總是很簡單的，但是能夠用英文來談論改變應該是很簡單的。

所以讓我們以“改變心意”開始吧。

Now it’s a common one， one that you‘ve probably heard before。

It’s used when you make a decision or you form an opinion that‘s different to the one that you first had。

這是個非常常見的習語，你可能以前早就聽說過。

當你做決定的時候，或者是形成一個和之前的觀點不同的想法的時候，都可以使用這個習語。

I was going to travel to Europe in September but I’ve changed my mind， I‘m going to go to Asia instead。

When I first met Paul， I thought he was odd but now that I’ve got to know him a little better， I‘ve changed my mind！

我本來打算在九月份去歐洲旅行，但是我改變了主意，想去亞洲。

當我第一次遇見保羅的時候，我覺得他蠻奇怪的，但是隨著現在和他慢慢熟絡，我改變了自己的想法！

I think he was probably just shy when I first met him。

Have you changed your mind about something recently？

我覺得當我第一次遇見他的時候，他應該是太害羞了。

你最近有改變對某件事情的看法嗎？

Perhaps about a holiday or maybe even your plans for the weekend。

Perhaps you’ve changed your mind about somebody， you‘ve changed your opinion about them。

可能是關於一次假期，或者是你對週末的計劃。

可能你改變了對於某個人的看法，你改變了對他們的想法。

Maybe you always wanted to study in America but now you’ve decided you want to study in Australia。

Perhaps you‘ve changed your mind。 So that was ’change your mind‘。

可能你改變了主意。那就是“改變心意”。

What about ’to change your tune‘ or a ’change of heart‘？ ’a change of scene‘？ ’a change of pace‘？

Now all of these idioms are similar but the way that we use them is slightly different， something that you need to understand and you need to pay attention to if you want to sound natural when you’re speaking English。

那“改變看法”、“改變心意”、“改變環境”和“改變習慣”呢？

所有的這些習語都很相似，但是我們使用它們的方式是有細微不同的，如果你想讓自己說的英語更加自然的話，有些方面你需要理解並且關注。

‘To change your tune’ is usually used when someone‘s opinion changes or someone’s behaviour changes and usually it‘s from a negative to a positive one。

So imagine that you have a colleague who’s been complaining about your boss for months。

當某個人的看法改變了，或者是某個人的行為改變了，一般是使用“改變看法”這個習語，它一般是從負面的方面轉變到積極的方面。

想象一下你有一位同事，抱怨你老闆好幾個月了。

They don‘t get on well together， they disagree on most things and your colleague can be quite stubborn about it。

But suddenly， your colleague comes into the office and starts saying that your boss is really nice and that he’s really great to work with。

他們相處並不融洽，他們在大多數事情上看法都不一致，而且你的同事非常固執。

但是突然之間，你的同事走進辦公室，開始說你的老闆人超級好，和他一起工作非常愉快。

He even goes and gets him a coffee every morning and you think “You‘ve really changed your tune！”

They’ve changed their opinion and they‘ve changed the way that they behave around this person。

他甚至每天早晨會去給他衝咖啡，你在想“你真的改變了看法啊！”

他們改變了他們的一些想法，以及對待這個人的方式。

This whole year I’ve been trying to convince Shah， my fiance， to go on a holiday and he‘s been saying “No， it’s too expensive we can‘t afford it！”

But last night he came home and he said he wanted to buy tickets to Tokyo and I thought “Hmm he’s really changed his tune。”

整整一年我都在努力說服我的未婚夫沙阿去度假，但是他一直在說“不行，太貴了，我們負擔不起啊！”

但是昨天晚上他回家之後告訴我他想買去東京的機票，我在想“呃，他真的改變了主意呢。”

His opinion about the holiday has completely changed。 He‘s changed his tune。

他關於度假的看法完全改變了。他改變了主意。

Now ’a change of heart‘ is slightly different。 You can see that it’s treated like a noun phrase。

下面是“改變心意”，有一點點不同。你可以看到它是作為名字短語使用的。

It‘s always a change of heart and it’s usually singular。

And this idiom is about a change in attitude。

永遠都是“改變心意”，一般都是單數形式。

這個習語是關於態度改變的。

A change in the way that you feel about something。

So imagine that you found a dress and it‘s perfect to wear to your friend’s wedding。

是你對於某件事情感覺的改變。想象一下你發現了一條裙子，穿去你朋友的婚禮非常合適。

It‘s gorgeous， you love it， but you’re not sure if it‘s going to go with the shoes that you’ve already got at home。

You‘re not sure if you should buy it。

它超級超級華麗，你超級喜歡它，但是你不確定和家裡的鞋搭不搭。

你不確定是否應該買這條裙子。

But the shop assistant says “If you have a change of heart， you can return it tomorrow。”

Now be careful that you don’t use this idiom in the same way as the previous ones。

但是店員說“如果你改變心意的話，明天可以再來的”。

注意哦，這個習語的使用方式和前一個不太一樣。

You can‘t say “He changed his heart” or “I changed my heart”。

It doesn’t work， it‘s not the same， it sounds a bit weird。

你不能說“He changed his heart”，或者是“I changed his heart”。

這不行的哦，這並不是相同的，聽起來有點點奇怪。

It’s usually used with the verb ‘have’。 He had a change of heart。

它一般都是和動詞“have”一起使用。他改變心意了。

She will probably have a change of heart。

I still remember when I was eighteen years old and I moved out of my family home。

她可能會改變心意的。

我還記得當我十八歲的時候，從我父母家裡搬出來。

I was moving into an apartment with some friends in the city and as I was saying goodbye to my parents， I started feeling really sad that I was leaving so my mum said， “Well if you have a change of heart and you decide to move back home， you‘ll always be welcome。” which made me feel a lot better about leaving。

Now speaking of moving house， we have our next idiom， ’a change of scene‘ or ’a change of scenery‘。

我和父母告別，和我的一些朋友搬進了城市裡的另外一個公寓，我開始真正地感覺到有點傷心，因為這次是真的離開了，所以我的媽媽說“如果你改變心意，想要搬回家的話，我們一直向你敞開懷抱”，這句話讓我對離開這件事情不那麼傷心了。

好的，說到搬家，那讓我們聊聊一個新的習語吧，那就是“改變環境”。

And this idiom is used when you move to different surroundings， you know， a different environment。

It could be used to talk about where you live or where you work。

當你搬到不同的地方，就是全新的環境中的時候，就可以使用這個習語。

當談論你居住的地方和你工作的地方的時候，就可以使用這個習語。

Tim was tired of working at his father’s company。 He wanted a change of scene so he applied for a job in Sydney。

蒂姆對在他父親的公司工作感到非常厭煩。

他想要換個環境，所以他申請了悉尼的一份新工作。

I‘m so tired of this little， tiny town。 I’ve been living here for twelve years。

我對這個小城市厭煩了。

我在這裡生活了十二年了。

I need a change of scenery！ I‘m going to move to New York。

我需要換個環境！我要搬到紐約去。

A change of pace is used in a similar way。

It talks about a change from your normal， daily routine， so you can use it to say that you need to try something different for a while。

“改變習慣”的用法也差不多。

它說的是改變你例行的日常，所以你可以使用這個習語來說你需要一下不同的東西。

A change from what you’re used to。

If you‘re not feeling very inspired by English these days or very motivated to practise， perhaps you need a change of pace。

從你習慣的東西中脫離出來。

如果你最近學英語的鬥志不太高昂，沒什麼動力進行練習的話，可能你需要改變一下節奏了。

You could travel to another country where you have to use your English and practise more。

So there you have it！

你可以去一個必須使用英語的國家旅行，進行練習。

Five useful idioms all about change， ones that all have very similar meanings but are used slightly differently。

You can be confident using any of them with any native English speakers from all English-speaking countries。

They’re really useful ones to learn because they‘re so common。

The best way to understand the difference between them is to practise using them。
